The Walker-Grant Alumni Association (WGAA) was founded in 1981 as an outgrowth of a school-wide reunion held that year. Membership is open to any individual who attended the Walker-Grant School from 1939 to 1968. The organization serves as a vehicle to maintain ties between former students of the school, to address the educational and cultural needs of youth in the Fredericksburg community, and to provide financial assistance to students.

The association has awarded over $65,000 in scholarships and grants to descendants of former students who enrolled in accredited institutions of higher learning. The association also operates a free summer enrichment program for children 5-12 years old (Summer Station) and a college preparatory program (Partnership for Academic Excellence).

The Walker-Grant Alumni Association will award two one-time $1,000 scholarships ($500 per semester) to graduating seniors. The scholarships are awarded for one year of full-time undergraduate study in any accredited institution of high learning, including two-year junior or community colleges, vocational schools, and four-year colleges. Grants are available for books and other school necessities and will be awarded based upon the availability of funds and need.

Criteria:

A descendant of an individual who attended the Walker-Grant School from 1939-1968
Graduating senior with a cumulative C-average
Financial need
Formally accepted at an accredited school or college

Applicants must submit the following:

A completed application packet (incomplete/late packets will not be considered)
An official high school transcript sealed by guidance counselor
Two letters of recommendation on official letterhead: one from your high school administrator/teacher and one from a community official/leader (please be sure your letters are recommending you for a scholarship/grant and not a college recommendation)
One-page double-spaced, typed essay explaining the need for financial assistance
Letter of acceptance from an accredited school/college that you will be attending for the 2024 fall semester
