Administration

Marcus Petty

Greetings! My name is Marcus L. Petty Sr., and I am honored to be the proud Principal of James Monroe High School, home of the Yellow Jackets. I am passionate about education, and I enjoy building relationships with students, staff, and families. I received my Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. My teaching career started in 2011 in Chesterfield Public Schools. During my time in Chesterfield, I served as Coordinator of the Success Initiative for high school students and as an Administrator of the 21-Century Program. In 2016, my journey into administration began at Charles City serving as the Assistant Principal, then Principal of Charles City High School. I am a devoted educator who encourages a student-centered learning environment and provides students with real-world opportunities to help them chart their path for success after high school. Again, I'm excited about the upcoming year, and I look forward to working alongside each of you. One Community/One JM!

He earned a Bachelor's of Science in Political Science from Shippensburg University, received his teaching license from Shenandoah University, and obtained his Master's in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University. With four girls at home, free time is rare, but Mr. Brousse loves adventuring with his family or doing anything that gets them outside. He likes running with his dog, doing projects around the house, reading the news, and keeping up to date with thought leaders in political and educational spaces. As the child of lifelong educators who enormously influenced his journey into education, Mr. Brousse is passionate about supporting students to create opportunities for themselves through education. He is a big believer in the power of community and the importance of our schools of as pillars of the city of Fredericksburg, and he is excited to serve our students, families, dedicated staff, and invested community partners.

Her career started in Louisa County as a middle school math teacher and high school competition cheerleading coach. She came to Fredericksburg in 2011 to teach math at Walker-Grant Middle School, and she completed her master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. Michelle Young

Mrs. Michelle Young is a lifelong learner and passionate educator who grew up nearby in Spotsylvania County. After graduating from Courtland High School, she attended Mary Washington College, where she earned a Bachelor's of English with an endorsement in Secondary Education. She then completed a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University and a certification in K-12 Administration from the University of Mary Washington. After twenty years serving as a secondary English teacher and district-wide Instructional Coach, she made the decision to come home to Fredericksburg to serve the community where she spent her youth and began her educational career.

Mrs. Young is married to a network engineer, Jay Young, and they have one daughter, Emileigh. Mrs. Young is an enthusiastic sports fan who loves watching football and ice hockey. She was born in Pittsburgh, so Steelers football and Penguins hockey are her lifelong favorite teams. She chose to return to a school building because she missed having opportunities to build meaningful relationships with students and contribute positively to their high school experience, especially cheering on student athletes at games and sporting events. She also loves attending concerts and other creative student activities. Mrs. Young is passionate about serving Fredericksburg's youth and families and loves being a James Monroe Yellow Jacket.
