Weekly Update from Principal Petty, 1/22/2023

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty Principal of James Monroe High School with important announcements:

  • Parents, we are in the last semester of the school year.  During this time, we intensify our instructional efforts to support and prepare students for passing their classes for the year and preparing for SOL and CTE testing.  All the previous leads to students being promoted to the next grade level and on-time graduation.  It is imperative you partner with us to ensure your child attends school everyday and arrive on-time to school and all classes.  Please know, regular attendance can positively impact academic performance. Students, please know, attendance matters because you matter.  Parents, if your child miss a day of school, please send a note to school or email Ms. Parker at lparker@cityschools.com.  If your child’s absence is related to COVID for themselves or a family member, please indicate that in the note. The additional information is helpful for us regarding the process of excusing an absence. Parents please know, if you need to send a note or email for a past absence you can still do so.
  • Congrats to David Blosser and his scholastic bowl team for winning the Battlefield District Championship on Thursday, Jan 19th.  JM defeated Spotsylvania 2-0 in the semifinal round and then defeated Culpeper in the final round, 2-0.  JM is 12-2 on the season and will compete in the Region 3B Championships on February 4th at Maggie Walker Governor’s School in Richmond.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us here at the school.

Have a great evening!

Go Jackets!
