Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed Thursday, January 9 due to poor road conditions and low temperatures that continue to maintain icy travels. While our maintenance department has been hard at work to clear parking lots and sidewalks, some of these remain questionable due to melting and expected refreezing. There are roads in the surrounding area that remain in poor condition making travel difficult if not hazardous.
Essential workers should report at 8AM.
12-month employees should report at 10AM.
Teachers and certificated employees (not 12-month) will have a flexible workday on Thursday and may either work remotely or work at the school building beginning at 10AM.
Anyone who reports should be cautious and take great care while both driving and entering buildings. Safety is always a number one concern.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 7. Buildings will not be open as parking lots and sidewalks are being addressed.
Essential personnel will be notified by their supervisor regarding report times.
The reason for this decision is hazardous road conditions as well as uncertain weather.
We will continue to monitor conditions and communicate any changes with you.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools will extend winter break by one day.
This means all buildings will be closed on Monday, January 6.
Tuesday, January 7 will be a staff workday.
Students will report to school on Wednesday, January 8.
Essential personnel will be notified by their supervisor regarding report times.
The reason for this decision is the timing of snowfall and possible sleet or freezing rain with regard to our ability to safely address hazardous conditions from parking lots and sidewalks. Safety is always our top priority.
We know that anything can change. We will continue to monitor weather, road conditions, as well as parking lots and sidewalks with regard to school opening. We will be in contact with you should we need to further adjust schedules.

As we step into the new year, we want to take a moment to show our appreciation for our incredible Student Ambassadors. This dedicated group of students goes above and beyond to positively promote James Monroe.
Volunteering their time and talents, they serve as liaisons between our current JM community and prospective students, warmly welcoming families and showcasing all that makes JM special. You’ll find them at campus events, proudly representing Yellow Jacket pride and making lasting connections.
Through their role, they also gain valuable skills in communication, public relations, marketing, and more—preparing for success beyond JM.
We’re so thankful for our Student Ambassadors and all they do to highlight the spirit and excellence of James Monroe.

As we reflect with gratitude this time of year, we’re thrilled to celebrate an incredible achievement to kick off the new year! Fine Swain soared to victory at States with an outstanding long jump of 17 ft 9 inches, making JM Athletics so proud.
We’re also thankful for Dick’s Sporting Goods, who recognized our track team’s success with a generous check this October after the team brought home the state championship!
Here’s to celebrating our student-athletes’ hard work and starting the year with pride and gratitude.
