Steps for Registration

STEP 0: Important Policies to Be Aware Of

STEP 1: Complete Registration Forms

Please complete the FCPS Registration Forms Packet [English] [Dari/Farsi] [Pashto] [Spanish] and email the documents to Camm Taylor.

If you are unable to complete the forms online, a registration packet can be picked up from the vestibule at Walker-Grant Center (210 Ferdinand Street) from 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday.

STEP 2A: Gather Required Documents

Proof of Residency in the City of Fredericksburg

In order to attend Fredericksburg City Public Schools, students and their parent/guardian(s) must be residing in the City of Fredericksburg. All of the documents must be current, valid, and reflect the address being used to enroll the student.

Documentation must include one of the following:

  • Primary Documents: a mortgage statement, deed, or rental agreement/lease

  • Secondary Documents: a current utility bill or letter of account from a utility company (gas, electric, or water only), or real estate tax bill/statement

If your name does not appear on the lease/mortgage agreement and utility bill of the residence in which you reside, you must provide the Shared Housing Forms 1 & 2 [English] [Dari/Farsi] [Pashto] [Spanish]. These forms will need to be signed and notarized with the tenant/owner indicating that you reside with them. In addition, there are required documents that will need to be provided to complete registration. Those documents are listed on the forms.

STEP 2B: Gather Required Documents (Continued)

Original Birth Certificate

Please provide us a copy of this document. We will need to see the original during the virtual registration appointment. If you need a new birth certificate in Virginia, information can be found at the Virginia Office of Vital Records. The DMV is also able to assist in obtaining new birth certificates.

Parent/Guardian-Issued Picture ID

This can be a passport, driver's license, or military ID card.

STEP 2C: Gather Final Required Documents

Immunization Record / School Entrance Physical Exam

This record must be dated within one year of entering school. These documents must be signed by a physician and recorded on a State Health Form, which may be obtained from your physician, the health department, or downloaded here [English] [Dari/Farsi] [Pashto] [Spanish].

Required Immunizations and Screenings:

Custody Papers (if applicable)

If someone other than a biological parent named on the birth certificate enrolls the child, we must have proof of custody or legal guardianship before proceeding. Powers of Attorney (exception: active-duty military under Title 10, United States Code, ยง 1044b), notarized guardianship papers, petitions for custody, and other similar documents are not accepted for enrollment in Virginia. Custody must be adjudicated with the courts prior to enrollment.

STEP 3: Return Required Documentation

Please place all completed registration forms and copies of documents needed for registration in the drop box at Walker-Grant Center (210 Ferdinand Street). Documents can also be faxed to (540) 940-8298 or emailed in a single PDF to Camm Taylor.

STEP 4: Make an Appointment

After you have completed all forms and returned copies of all documents to the drop box, please use the link below to schedule an appointment for a virtual registration meeting. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins. During the virtual meeting, the registrar will review all registration documents submitted, answer questions, and provide the next steps in the registration process. It is requested that families have all original documents (birth certificates and parent/guardian photo ID) available at the time of the scheduled virtual meeting.
