Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,
This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, with your weekly update for the upcoming week. Between the Monday holiday and the snowy weather last week, we only had one day to spend together learning, but what a wonderful day at school it was for all of us. It looks like a nice touch of warm weather next week will allow us to have a full week of school with all the opportunities for great learning to occur and for our staff to challenge our students to rise to the occasion and help make up for the lost time.
We start this week with both PALS testing and Virginia’s Student Growth Assessments (SGAs). This is our time to check in at the halfway point of school to see how much academic growth your child has had since the start of the school year.
Tuesday, January 23rd, we recognize it as our 100th day of school! We are proud of our accomplishments up to this point, but now it reminds us to turn our focus to the latter part of the school year and to keep that focus on excellent learning by our students and staff.
Wednesday, January 24th our school PTA is sponsoring a Spirit Night at the Mellow Mushroom Restaurant downtown from 5pm to 9pm. Come join our fellow HMES families for good food and fun all while helping to support our HMES school community.
Thursday, January 25th is our Family/Teacher Conference Night from 5pm to 7pm. If you wish to set up a meeting with your child(ren)’s teacher(s), please contact the teacher directly to select a time slot available that evening to meet. We look forward to seeing you and meeting to discuss our students' needs and ways towards success in their education.
Be on the lookout for more information on events and activities for February as we begin celebrating Black History Month the week after next. We start things off by hosting at Hugh Mercer our FACE committee’s Get Moving Family Night on Thursday, February 1st for all Fredericksburg Schools. More information will be sent home in student folders and posted to our websites and social media.
As always, we are looking forward to another productive and positive week ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is essential, and working together ensures the success of every Hugh Mercer student.
I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.
Goodnight,
Mr. Snyder
