Principal Snyder's Weekly Update

Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,

This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, with your weekly update for the upcoming week.

This week we continue with our Virginia’s Student Growth Assessments (SGAs) for grades 3 through 5. This is our time to check in at the halfway point of school to see how much academic growth your child has had since the start of the school year. We were able to conclude and complete our PALS testing last week for kindergarten through grade 2.

On Monday, FCPS will have its division wide Spelling Bee. Good luck to our students who will represent Hugh Mercer at the Bee. The spelling bee will be streamed live online, use the link provided to watch at 9am on Monday, January 29. https://www.regionalwebtv.com/fredsb

Thanks to the generosity of our Math Specialist, Nancy Collins’s family, Hugh Mercer now has its own Little Library set up near the school’s main entrance. Please feel free to participate in this wonderful project and gift by checking out books in it for yourself and your family.

Beginning on Thursday with it being the first day of February, Hugh Mercer and FCPS will have their events and activities to celebrate Black History Month. We start things off by hosting at Hugh Mercer our FACE committee’s Get Moving Family Night on Thursday, February 1st for all Fredericksburg Schools. More information has been sent home in student folders and posted to our websites and social media. At Hugh Mercer we have daily activities planned to highlight people and events that showcase the contributions of Black Americans to our society and culture. Additionally, each grade level will be doing their own activities to explore further the contributions and history of Black Americans. Information on the month and activities will be sent home with your student and shared on our website and social media.

As always, we are looking forward to another productive and positive week ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is essential, and working together ensures the success of every Hugh Mercer student.

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Goodnight,

Mr. Snyder
