Principal Snyder's Weekly Update

Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,

This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, with your weekly update for the upcoming week.

Starting this week, Hugh Mercer will be celebrating the importance of reading through numerous activities during March and April. We begin the week of March 4, with Read Across America. Details and information were sent home last week and as we plan each future event be on the lookout for information in my weekly messages, school website, and our social media posts. Helping a child find joy in reading is an excellent way for one generation to pass along to the next generation a gift that ultimately benefits us all.

On Tuesday, March 5, HMES will serve as a polling station for the presidential primary election. To prioritize the safety and security of our students, voters will only be allowed into the gym area using a designated exterior gym door and there will be no interaction with students throughout the day. Additionally, our car rider lines in both the morning and afternoon will operate as usual. Voters will be directed to the center roadway between the parking lots and to designated parking in the faculty lot by election staff. Our own staff will still be present and directing parents and cars as they normally do.

This week the FCPS Family/Faculty March Madness Basketball Tournament launches. The first game will be on Thursday, March 7, and HMES has been selected to play WGMS. Come out to JM to support us. Doors open at 5:00pm. The game starts at 6:00pm.

Friday, March 8, will be a teacher workday. School is closed for students. The following week, FCPS will be closed for its Spring Break on Monday, March 11, to Friday, March 15. All schools will open back up on Monday, March 18.

As always, we are looking forward to another productive and positive week ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is essential, and working together ensures the success of every Hugh Mercer student.

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Goodnight,

Mr. Snyder
