Principal Snyder's Weekly Update, 04/14/24

Good evening, Hugh Mercer students and families,

This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, with your weekly update for the coming week.

We are gearing up for SOL testing on April 22 for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Our K-2 is starting to assess with their teachers how well prepared they are going to be for the next year in their new grade. Regular school attendance is very important to try and follow each week from now until the end of the school year.

For any student absences, please ensure you communicate with teacher promptly to cooperate makeup work and support their academic progress.

Our grade 3-5 students also went home with permission forms for SOL retakes. It is important that you complete those and return them to your child’s teacher.

April 22: 4th Grade Reading SOL

April 23: 5th Grade Reading SOL

April 24: 3rd Grade Reading SOL

April 25: SOL Makeups and Individual Testers for 5th Grade Science SOL

April 26: 4th Grade VA Studies SOL

A detailed schedule of all testing from April 22 to May 17 will be shared next week to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families.

Starting Monday in honor of Military Child Month, we will be hosting a spirit week. Flyers were sent home last week and are viewable on our website with the various ways you can participate each day this week.

Also on Monday, FCPS will be celebrating our military-connected families with a Purple Up Fun Run from 5-6:30pm at James Monroe High School. Information on the event was sent home last week. Registration is still open. Register using the link below to sign up for a spot.

On Friday, April 19 from 6-7pm at the FCPS Connection Resources Center, we will be celebrating our Games Around the World Event. Come play games, enjoy snacks, and gather school and community resources. Flyers were sent home last week but can also be viewed on our website for more information.

With May fast approaching, each and every day of school becomes more and more important to ensuring that your child finishes the academic year equipped with the skills and confidence needed for their next school year. Let’s make it a goal to achieve perfect attendance for the time remaining except for instances of illness or unexpected emergencies that may occur and are excusable.

As always, we are looking forward to another productive and positive week ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is essential, and working together ensures the success of every Hugh Mercer student.

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Goodnight,

Mr. Snyder
