Principal Snyder's Weekly Update

Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,

This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, welcoming you back for what is going to be an amazing and great school year at Hugh Mercer Elementary School. Each week on Sunday evening I will communicate to you important reminders for the week ahead and other dates and events you need to know are coming up. Everyone at Hugh Mercer is excited to welcome back our returning Patriots and welcome our new Patriots.

Monday is FCPS’s Transition Day for all Kindergarten, Sixth Grade, and Ninth Grade students only. We will follow our normal school day hours of 8:20am to 3:15pm, but we will be introducing only our Kindergarten students to their new school and our routines and expectations for being a Hugh Mercer Patriot.  All students (K-5) start school together on Tuesday, 08/06.

With the start of the new school year, we want all our students to be ready for success and we want to continue to work alongside parents and community members to help us with our goal of all students reaching their fullest potential. To do that, we need our Hugh Mercer community to understand the clear expectations we have for all students, staff, parents, and community. Those expectations are embodied in our Patriot P.R.I.D.E. and I have shared a link to our Patriot P.R.I.D.E. document so you can help us by referring to it whenever you have discussions about school with your child(ren).

A new expectation and policy for all of FCPS is our Cell Phone Policy. With the new policy, cell phones at both elementary schools are prohibited in school and on school buses for elementary-aged students. We ask you to work with your child(ren) to help them understand the appropriate ways and places to use or have a cell phone and that in school is not a place for cell phone use.

As you help your child(ren) prepare for the new school year, please review bus route information if you plan to send your child to school on our buses. Bus route information can be found on our website.

If you ever need to contact us or have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (540) 372-1115 or through our website

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Goodnight,

Mr. Snyder
