Principal Snyder's Weekly Update

Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,

This is your principal, Mr. Snyder, with your weekly update for the upcoming week.

Reminders from last week:

As we move into the routine of school, please remember to communicate with the school regarding any absences due to sickness or emergencies. Communication is key to supporting your child(ren)’s success. HMES Attendance Note Link: Attendance Notes | Hugh Mercer Elementary School (fxbgschools.us)

Transportation changes also need to be communicated in a timely manner. The cut-off to submit changes to your child(ren)’s transportation is 2:30pm each day. Transportation Changes Link: Transportation Form | Hugh Mercer Elementary School (fxbgschools.us)

Picking up your child(ren) early from school must be done before 3pm, 2:45 is the cut-off. The entrance to the bus loop and therefore the front entrance of the building is restricted to buses only starting at 3pm.

Instruction and Assessment:

We are approaching our interim period for the first nine-weeks grading period. Now is a great time to ask your child more questions about their learning and how they see it progressing.

As we begin our diagnostic assessments such as VALLSS and VKRP, please encourage your child(ren) to do their best as these assessments are not “pass/fail” nor do they impact a student’s reported performance in a class. The assessments are just tools to help teachers better understand your child’s learning progress and needs.

Upcoming Events:

Family Connections Night (Back-to-School): August 28, 5pm to 7pm. Please join us to meet with your child's classroom teacher and their Special Areas Teachers to see what we have done so far what we have planned for the whole school year. We will also have resources and important information tables set up in the gym for families to explore. Parking for the event is located at the rear parking lot closest to the gym entrance. To enter the event, please use the gym doors located under the awning we use for our car rider lines.

PTA Meeting: HMES Library, September 3 @ 5:30pm

HMES Book Fair: September 3-10 (details coming soon)

September 9: Interim Reports sent home in student folders

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Patriot PRIDE always,

Mr. Snyder
