Principal Snyder's Weekly Update

Good evening, Hugh Mercer Students and Families,

Reminders from Last Week:

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we truly appreciate your efforts in ensuring your children attend school regularly when they are healthy. Consistent attendance is vital for building strong relationships and maintaining academic progress. Students are considered chronically absent when they miss 18 or more days in a 180-day school year, which is roughly 2 or 3 days per month. Let's work together to help our students succeed by ensuring they're present and engaged.

Instruction and Assessment

Families, please continue to have conversations with your child(ren) about the role school and their teachers play in their learning. We are working hard to provide your child(ren) with an excellent education, and we need all of our community working to build that trust and understanding of what a child is expected to do when they arrive at school each day. Let them know that sometimes the tasks and lessons can be challenging and difficult at first, but because we believe in the Patriot PRIDE of persistence, we keep trying a little bit longer and stick with it a little bit more each time.

Safety and Behaviors

Families, please encourage conversations about conflict resolution with your child(ren). We are working to establish the expectation for HMES that we do not settle conflict by using hurtful words or physical touch.

Upcoming Events

  • September 17 @ 5:30pm — SPECIAL EVENT: Viewing of What I Wish My Parents Knew at JMHS

  • September 18 — Fall School Photos (Individual)

  • September 18 — PTA Spirit Night at Panera

  • September 26 — First early dismissal day of the school year, day ends at 12:45pm

As always, we are looking forward to another productive and positive week ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Your partnership is essential, and working together ensures the success of every Hugh Mercer student.

I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to a wonderful week ahead.

Patriot PRIDE, always,

Mr. Snyder
