Update to HMES Indoor Instruction Message - 11/7/24, 11:00 AM

Indoor Instruction indicates that schools lock their outside doors and everyone stays inside. Students may still move about the building. They just cannot go outside.

We asked everyone to stay inside Hugh Mercer Elementary School out of an abundance of caution after coordinating with the Fredericksburg Police Department. We were made aware that there was a coordinated effort by Fredericksburg Police in the adjacent apartment complex, which had nothing to do with City Schools.

Please know that students and staff were safe at all times.

At approximately 9:15 AM today, Hugh Mercer Elementary School went on Indoor Instruction. Then, at approximately 10:30 AM, Hugh Mercer went off Indoor Instruction and resumed normal school operations.

Good morning families,

All students, faculty, and staff are safe. At approximately 9:15 AM today, Hugh Mercer Elementary School went on Indoor Instruction. All students remained inside while Fredericksburg Police handled an incident in the adjacent apartment complex. We called the Indoor Instruction out of an abundance of caution. Hugh Mercer students, faculty, and staff were safe at all times.
