Weekly principal message - 5 oct 2025

Dear Patriots,

This is an important message from Dr. Brenda Russ, Principal of Hugh Mercer Elementary School. We had a great week of learning last week. Our 3rd graders learned about adaptations, and they impact organisms and their environment, Kindergarten students made inferences and summarized using sequence of events during their shared read aloud, and 2nd grade students compared expressions to determine if they were equal or not equal. We anticipate another great week of learning this week.

Here is the update for this week:

  • 🗓️October is Bullying Prevention Month! Our students and staff will participate in a series of activities and opportunities throughout the month. As a reminder, we will💙 BlueUp tomorrow, Monday, October 6th in honor of World Day of Bullying Prevention. 💙

  • 📚📝Our Kindergarten students will begin to take their VALLSS assessment this week. The VALLSS assessment is a literacy screener to identify students in need of additional support and intervention.

  • 🎂Our PTA Nothing Bundt Cake fundraiser cakes will be distributed this week!

  • 🌸HMES is honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with interactive, fun-filled cultural activities and bilingual stories. Check out the flyer attached for more information.
