On Monday, April 8, the rare solar eclipse will occur at the end of the school day for some students and while others will be transitioning home either by bus, car, or walking. Our concern is everyone’s safety. We know it would be tempting for some students to look at the sun which could cause injury without eye protection. We also know that many parents would like to experience the solar eclipse with their children. For these reasons, we will close schools early on Monday, April 8. This early dismissal will allow students to arrive home safely.  Elementary schools will dismiss at 12:45pm and middle and high schools will dismiss at 12:00pm. Preschool Programs will dismiss at 12:00pm.  We hope students and families take the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary, natural phenomenon.  More information on safe viewing will be coming to our FCPS families.

On March 20th the Connections Resource Center hosted a family event where parents were able to have one on one conversations with teachers and administrators about their children with the help of interpreters. Parents also learned how to translate school documents and information on the website using Google Translate. Some of the topics discussed were school attendance, the principals' weekly message, school events, transportation changes, and students' grades, among others. Teachers, administrators, and parents shared a meal together and got to meet each other to continue building a stronger relationship among our multilingual families.

Boys & Bow Ties meets once a week with Mr. Wishard after school to learn lessons related to positive language, etiquette, manners, teamwork, and leading by example in school and in the community. They wear their dress shirts and bow ties each Wednesday and complete a writing assignment in their journal. The students have learned about hurtful words and the power of positive language. Next week Jos. A. Bank is coming to give the history of the necktie and students will learn and practice tying different types of knots.
