Principal Petty's Weekly Update

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School, with important reminders:

Please know, SOL testing starts this month on April 22. It's not too late for your child to start attending afterschool remediation or Saturday Academy. Afterschool remediation will run through April 18. Saturday Academy will run through April 20. If you have questions about afterschool remediation, please contact your student's teacher. If you have questions about Saturday Academy, please contact Michelle Young. Food will be provided for students who participate.

Mental Health America is coming again on April 2 and April 4 to talk to the 9th grade PE classes about signs of suicide. If you do not want your child to participate, please contact the counseling office. [Parent Letter SOS]

Lastly, we are filling up quickly!! Please join us at the upcoming Mental Health Resource Fair, which will take place at James Monroe High School on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9am to 2pm. This event aims to provide valuable resources and support for our community in promoting mental wellness and resilience. Please register so you don't miss out on this fantastic event. To register for the event please use the registration link below. Registration ends on April 8, 2024. Please take a moment to review additional details in the email portion of this alert. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your school counselor, division social workers, or contact your student's school directly.

Here are some highlights of what you can expect:

  • Date and Time: Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9am to 2pm

  • Location: James Monroe High School

  • Lunch: Lunch will be provided for all attendees

  • Booths: Over 20 vendor/booths featuring community partners will offer resources and information

  • Keynote Speaker: We are honored to have Stephanie Malia Krause, author of Whole Child, as our keynote speaker. The first 100 families to register will receive a complimentary copy of her book

  • Breakout Sessions: There will be 10 breakout sessions covering various topics related to mental health and wellbeing

  • Live Dance Performance: Enjoy a live dance performance from the group "Dance Louder Than Words"
