The Brain Aneurysm Foundation's 7th Annual Austen's Communitas 5K Walk

Saturday, September 21 @ 8:30am to 11am

Volunteer to help raise awareness by participating in this hybrid event — there are two different ways to participate:

  1. The walk begins at 9am and ends at Memorial Park Meet (1401 Kenmore Ave, 22401) on September 21. Volunteers meet with other participants and walk the Heritage Trail & Canal Path Loop (5K/3.1 mi.) as a group. Many crossing guards are also needed and will be expected to arrive by 8:30am. Seeking 3-4 volunteers per crossing (there are 6 crossings). Orange safety vests will be provided.

  2. Walk in your area with friends and family sometime on or before September 21. For more information about the walk, visit Austen’s Communitas Walk. No online registration required or registration fee for students.

If you have further questions or wish to serve as a crossing guard, please contact Leslie Leahy. A certificate for Completion of Service Hours will be provided.


Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR)

Saturday, October 12 @ 9am to 12pm

FOR's Big Fall Clean-up will be held on Saturday, October 12, from 9am to 12pm. Kick off fall the right way by joining community members and organizations in helping keep our river and community clean and healthy! FOR and the R-Board will provide litter grabbers, bags, and gloves for all volunteers.

Volunteers younger than 16 must have a parent/guardian present. Volunteers must sign a waiver prior to participating. Groups, organizations, schools, and sponsors can register here.

Lunch is included!

Details & Schedule:

  • 8:45am to 9:30am: Volunteers arrive at Old Mill Park (2201 Caroline St, 22401), check in, grab their supplies, participate in a safety talk, take a big group photo, then head out to their cleanup sites throughout Fredericksburg! All cleanup sites are less than 10 minutes walking or driving distance from Old Mill. Participants are encouraged to carpool.

  • 9:30am to 11:30am: Cleanup your site and our river!

  • 12pm: Enjoy FREE Billikens BBQ lunch by the river at Old Mill to celebrate!


Tree Fredericksburg

Sunday, October 20 @ 1pm to 4pm

High school student volunteers are needed for the Tree Fredericksburg Tree & Shrub Giveaway on Sunday, October 20, from 1pm to 4pm at the Fredericksburg Nationals Baseball Stadium (42 Jackie Robinson Way, 22401).

There are twenty spots available for student volunteers, so please only sign up if you can show up. Visit Tree Fredericksburg for more information.
