Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update

Good Evening Lafayette Families,

This is Mrs. Wheeler, your principal with a few important reminders for the week ahead.

As we emerge from a week filled with snow days, I am thrilled to welcome you back to a full week of school with the promise of sunshine and lots of learning. The snow days may have disrupted our routine, but they haven't dampened our spirits or determination to make the most of the second semester.

This week we are continuing with our PALs testing in grades K-3, alongside the beginning of Winter growth assessments for grades 3-5. It is important that your child is on time and present each day, as these assessments play a crucial role in helping us gauge their academic progress at this point in the school year.

The testing schedule is as follows: - 5th grade Reading: Tuesday, January 23rd, test beginning at 12:45 pm - 4th grade Reading: Wednesday, January 24th, test beginning at 9:30 am - 3rd grade Reading: Thursday, January 25th, test beginning at 12:30 pm

If you didn't receive your child's Quarter 2 report card last Thursday, please anticipate it being sent home tomorrow.

Family/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for this coming Thursday, January 25th, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a time that works for you.

Family Life classes will begin for all students in late January. The Family Life Parent Night has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 24th, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the Lafayette Library. Families are invited to review the instructional materials that will be used, and we encourage you to also review the VDOE Family Life Education Standards of Learning linked here.

For those who wish to opt out their child from Family Life classes, please complete the form linked here by January 25th, 2024.

Families of grades 3-5 students, please check your child's folder/bookbag for club sign-up forms. We have extended the deadline to Tuesday, January 23rd. We are excited to offer enrichment activities for our older students this Spring session.

Looking ahead to February, mark your calendars for our Division-wide Get Moving Night, which will be held at Hugh Mercer Elementary School on Thursday, February 1. More information will come home in Friday folders this week.

Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a week of sunshine, growth, and exciting opportunities!

Best regards,

Mrs. Wheeler
