Today 23 James Monroe students participated in the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Intern Expo "Oh, the Place You'll Go!" Students interacted with area businesses and learned of local internships and job opportunities. They all participated in mock interviews and sat in break-out sessions such as Dress for Success and How to Make a Linked In. Our students are lucky to be supported and encouraged by the amazing Teachers and the Superintendent.

Happy National School Counseling week! We are continuing to recognize the amazing counselors at JM. Let's put our hands together for the remarkable Ms. Johnson! 👏 With more than 3 decades of nurturing young minds, she began her journey right where foundations are built—at Hugh Mercer Elementary, teaching 1st grade. From shaping tiny tots to guiding future leaders, she's the beacon of hope in our hallways! 🌈 #SchoolCounselorHero #30YearsStrong #EducatorExtraordinaire #HughMercerLegacy

Happy National School Counseling week! Let's kick things off with a massive shoutout to our beacon of guidance, the Director of School Counseling, Ms. Botkin! Behind every thriving student is a counselor like her, steering dreams towards reality. 🚀 Fun fact about her: her 3rd child graduated from JM last year and she is now an empty nester!! 🏡💖 Here’s to new chapters & the mentors who inspire us along the way! 📚✏️ #GuidanceChampion #ThankYouMsBotkin #EmptyNesterLife #JMProud

Today we celebrated Groundhog day with the faculty. They were asked groundhog trivia questions and the teachers and staff that had the most correct answers received a prize. Good news, we are supposed to have an early spring 🌸🌻

Future leaders in action! 🌟 Our James Farmer Scholars stepped into the halls of history at the Capitol on January 31st, soaking up lessons in leadership and democracy. ✨ Their passion and curiosity are paving the way to a brighter tomorrow. They had the opportunity to speak with the Lieutenant Governor and tour the mansion as well. The scholars were recognized on the floor by Delegate Josh Cole, who is a teacher at the James Farmer Scholars Saturday Sessions. 🏛️ #ScholarsAtTheCapitol #FutureLeaders #JamesFarmerScholars #CivicEngagement

NATIONAL CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
What is career and technical education?
CTE students earn industry certifications and licenses, postsecondary certificates,
associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and higher.
92% of high school students and 69% of college and adult students are engaged in CTE, learning skills in the classroom and on the job.
CTE is good for students, good for businesses, and good for communities.
CTE high school students are college and career-ready: 94% graduate high school, and most enroll directly in college.
CTE is the answer to the nation’s projected deficit of 6.5 million skilled workers, including infrastructure, health care and manufacturing workforce shortages.

February is School Board Appreciation Month
The month of February marks the annual observance of School Board Appreciation Month—a good time to recognize the work of school board members and celebrate public education. Tell your locally elected board members you appreciate what they do for students in Fredericksburg City Public Schools and for being the heart of education by ensuring our students have the opportunity to benefit from a high-quality education. Their decisions and actions affect the present and future lives of our community’s children. Join us in celebrating School Board Appreciation Month in FCPS.
